Benefits of lamb

As well as being present among Christmas dishes, lamb is a typical Easter food. The tradition of tasting this sheep meat at Easter is directly linked to religion and the identification of lamb as a sacred animal and all the good and pure that goes with it. With the celebration of Easter, there is nothing better than discussing the benefits of this delicious meat, as well as the different ways of cooking it, without forgetting the exquisite sobrasada from Mallorca, always present in our cuisine, among other products from the largest of the Balearic Islands. Here we explain the benefits of lamb.

Benefits of lamb

Lamb meat is a rich source of proteins of high biological value. That is to say, these proteins contain all the essential amino acids, as well as being very rich in minerals such as magnesium, selenium, copper, iron and zinc. It is also considered a good source of vitamins B2, B5 and B6, as well as phosphorus and potassium.
In short, it is a highly recommended meat, given its capacity to provide energy and multiple essential nutrients, being recommended for all types of people, an unbeatable piece of meat for many types of diets.

Ways of cooking this product

The most traditional way of cooking lamb is to roast the whole animal, although stews and casseroles, lamb kebabs, or simpler roasts using the legs or ribs of the animal are also popular.
Due to the fact that sheep meat can be affected by different culinary treatments, it is recommended to avoid prolonged roasting, as compounds harmful to health can be formed. However, the protein content of lamb meat remains intact, regardless of how it is cooked.
At Easter it is also typical to make lamb pies with sobrassada (panades). When making the panades, we take portions of dough and fill them with marinated lamb meat, sobrasada from Mallorca and a little bacon. Then, roll out the dough with a rolling pin, cut a circular portion to cover the empanada, making a small ridge to seal the dough. Make a small hole in the centre and bake the empanada.
During these festive days, tasty and traditional Mallorcan sausages, such as camallot de Mallorca or butifarrón de Mallorca, as well as delicious Mallorcan cheese, an artisan cheese made from raw cow’s milk, should not be missing from the table either. Buy sobrasada de Mallorca and other typical Mallorcan products such as those mentioned above through our online shop to enjoy a gastronomically perfect Easter.
